Kitty Hawk

K is for... Kitty Hawk

Once a remote area, Kitty Hawk has grown into a summer resort area on the North Carolina Coast. When Orville Wright stepped on shore in Kitty Hawk Village in the fall 1900, he probably knew that he and his brother would most likely make the history of flight. Three years later they broke the bonds of the Earth for the first time in their flying machine named "Heavier Than Air". Kitty Hawk became known as the birthplace of aviation even though the real flight took place 4 miles from the base of Kill Devil Hill. In 1903 Orville Wright telegraphed home of the first powered flight.k.GIFA
